I work at a flower shop,Cedar Village Floral http://www.ogdenfloral.com/. I consider this to be one of the best jobs in the world, until (dramatic music plays) Valentine's Day. The busiest day in the flower shop industry. Pink and red fill the shop, buckets and buckets full of flowers, hundreds and hundreds of red roses and baby's breath. Pretty picture right? Wrong. A whole weekend of getting to work at 7:00 A.M. and finally leaving around midnight. Non-stop arranging, getting pricked by rose thorns, and the phone ringing off the hook.
I was, however, proud of myself for the arrangements I was putting out. They were beautiful, if I do say so myself. A co-worker said we were in a fight because I was doing so well. That was the highlight of the weekend.
Flowers are pretty, they make people happy. I love getting flowers any kind any color. Well some women are completely arrogant! "My husband didn't spend enough." "My husband didn't order the right thing." "My flowers are too fresh they aren't bloomed and look horrible." Well lady, I'm surprised you have a husband for one thing and that he was sweet enough to get you flowers and if they aren't bloomed it just means that in a day or two they will look beautiful and last that much longer. I don't understand how there can be so many things wrong with flowers, they are flowers!
A nightmarish weekend ended with me having an aching back, a terrible cold, and exhaustion. At least I have 22 hours of over time. I need it.

This is so funny! On Monday when I was driving to work, I saw a Jimmy's flower truck making deliveries to Hill Air Force base, and then I drove past the actual Jimmy's Flower store and have never seen it so busy in my life! I was like oh man, I feel extremely bad for them! I agree with you people should be more grateful for the things they are given; including myself. However; it's kind of sad to me that we have a day specifically to express our love to others when we should be doing it everyday all year round! =D
ReplyDeleteLacey,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you it should definately be year round love expressing! One day for it is not enough especially since that one day is the only day most guys show any type of affection.
I am totally shocked that women are so rude about their Valentine's gifts. However, I can totally relate to a long work week and overtime (hello, paycheck!) Other than the crazy V-day it sounds like you have a pretty fun job.
